Transport

Traffic is a big problem for this country. Cars polute the atmosphere and the roads they use eat into the countryside and dominate town centres. The UK Government is taking action to encourage the poplice to reduce it's car usage: congestion charges; pay-as-you-go roads; higher road tax on the less fuel efficient vehicles; motorway tolls; etc.... All these measures and more can help sway people to use alternative forms of transport, and yet still the Government is intent on building more roads. This is a quick fix solution: if a road is getting congested, then it seems obvious to widen it and add another lane. However, ample evidence abounds that eventually that extra space will get filled and so the vicious cycle continues. Did you know that after widening a stretch of the M25, traffic had doubled within a year?

We need to change our travel behaviour to reduce transport's contribution to climate change. Besides making a difference to our environment it will most likely save you money too.
