Food
What we eat not only affects our body composition and energy levels, it also can have a profound effect on the environment, for better or for worse. Therefore it is important for you to make informed choices.
Here are some suggested guidelines to help you decide how to shop:
- Use local shops: support the local economy. Also they tend not to over package their food. Click here for more
- Order a box of fresh produce, preferably organic, delivered to your door. Click here for links to suppliers
- Support local farmers by buying local produce and shopping at farmers markets. Buy British instead of foreign produce, like apples, that have travelled from the other side of the world. Click here for Farmers Markets in your area
- Choose organic where possible. Besides the potential health benefits, the food will have been grown in an environmentally friendly way.
- Buy Fairtrade. If there's a choice between the cheapest option and the Fairtrade one, consider the people who harvested the crop and choose Fairtrade.
- Reduce packaging wherever possible. Avoid food in non-degradeable plastic boxes etc... and buy loose.
- Reuse shopping bags. Buy strong attractive shopping bags that you can use everytime. Take a look at our Waste & Recycling section for more ideas
You may already shop in this way, or just adopt a few. Do what you can.
